There’s something magical about starting the day with a peaceful walk—and for me, few things compare to the sweet scent of honeysuckle in the morning. But my recent walk through Bon Air Park in Arlington, Virginia, came pretty close.
Located right off the W&OD Trail, Bon Air Park is a hidden gem that connects effortlessly with Four Mile Run Trailand even ties into the larger Mount Vernon Trail network. Whether you’re out for a jog, a photo stroll, or just need a moment to breathe, this is a space where you can truly take time to smell the roses—literally.
Bon Air’s formal rose garden is one of the most stunning features in the park. As I wandered the paths, the bursts of color—from bold reds and pinks to delicate peach and lavender blooms—created an atmosphere that was both uplifting and serene.
Each section of the garden offers a new wave of scent and texture. There’s something grounding about being surrounded by so many different varieties, each at peak bloom and cared for with intention.
In today’s hustle culture, it’s easy to forget how vital it is to slow down. My morning walk through Bon Air reminded me that beauty is right here—sometimes just a short detour off the main trail. Whether you’re training for a marathon or simply craving a bit of stillness, this spot is worth the pause.
Bon Air Park is accessible and free to the public, with nearby parking and bike access. If you want to pair exercise with beauty, consider starting on the W&OD Trail and making a detour into the park. The rose garden is in full bloom from late spring to early summer, but the green space and trails are worth a visit year-round.
Need a Reset?
If life feels like it’s moving a little too fast, take a morning or afternoon to reconnect with the simple things. Bon Air Park is a perfect reminder that moments of joy can be found in nature, flowers, and quiet paths.
