Stepping Back in Time: A Bold ’70s Vibe in Downtown Baltimore

Downtown Baltimore came alive with color and creative energy during this ’70s-inspired photowalk, a vibrant collaboration with the Peculiar Collective. This first feature in the four-part series, “Vintage Regal Beauty,” showcases the effortlessly elegant Yvonne — known on Instagram as @vonny.a_

Playing with Light: Strobes Under the Sun

Shooting in full daylight offered the perfect opportunity to experiment with balance — blending natural sunlight with strobe lighting for that luminous, editorial pop.
The combination of hard midday light and flash control brought crisp detail to Yvonne’s features while maintaining the warmth and vibrancy of the retro color palette.

The metallic orange reflection from the vintage car added a cinematic glow, echoing the warm tones and nostalgic feel of classic 1970s street photography.

Style and Expression: Bold, Fearless, Timeless

From her flowing orange textured blouse to the multi-colored headwrap and round tinted sunglasses, Yvonne radiated 70s sophistication with a modern twist. Each pose carried the calm confidence of a woman who knows her power — soft and regal.

Her styling choices created perfect color harmony against the Baltimore mural backdrop — vibrant, cultural, and unapologetically expressive. Every frame celebrated individuality and artistry, reminding us why timeless style never fades.

Collaborative Energy: Creative Community in Action

Partnering with the Peculiar Collective always brings good creative synergy. This session was more than a photoshoot — it was an artistic union of energy, culture, and nostalgia. The Baltimore streets became our studio, the murals our canvas, and the sunlight our stage lighting.

Gear and Setup

  • Lighting: Profoto B10 - bare bulb (set at hi speed sync)

  • Camera: Canon R5 with 24-105 f 2.8 lens

  • Settings: ISO 160 | f/4.5 | 1/800 sec

  • Environment: Harsh midday sun balanced with strobe for even highlights and rich contrast
